Renumbering files in subfolders

Postby Idi Kamin » Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:48 pm

I have 300 subfolders that containes each alot of jpg.`s. What i would like is to ad numbers as they are before renaming as shown.
Folder 1:
a 1.Jpg
a 2.Jpg
a 3.Jpg
a 4.Jpg

Folder 2:
a 1.Jpg
a 2.Jpg
a 3.Jpg
a 4.Jpg

But BRU does this.

Folder 1:
a 1.Jpg
a 2.Jpg
a 3.Jpg
a 4.Jpg

Folder 2:
a 5.Jpg
a 6.Jpg
a 7.Jpg
a 8.Jpg
Is there a way to come around this?
Thanks in advance.

It does`nt work, maybe i`m doing something wrong, let me start from scrach.
I will rename the files with the following:
Remove, in name (2)
Prefix, - in Sep, and Level 2, in Append folder name (9)
Ticking Files and Subfolders, in Filters (12)

In numbering (10)
I have Sufix, Start 1, Incr 1, and ticked folder.

But still still numbering 1 2 3 4 ...... 18 over 3 folders.

Hi,

Your settings are fine. By ticking folder, this resets the number counter back on every sub-folder BRU enters when renaming.
I know sometimes I have to sort by sub-folder colum sometimes and un-tick, re-tick folder to get the number order right. Other than that it works.

I tried your settings and all green names are correct. Each folder resets to 1
Folder 1= 01-20
Folder 2= 01-20
Folder 3= 01-20
Anyway you can post a screen-shot, maybe you overlooked something.

Hi,

That all looked good from what I can see. The New BRU doesn't give a big enough window for the file list, to see how its counting.

The only thing I can see maybe giving you problems are, You have the "New Name" collum selected at the top bar and it's trying to sort by "new name".
Can you strech out the "SUB" collum for "sub-folders" (Top Bar) and select it so that BRU is now sorting by "Sub-folders". Do that or "Name" Collum, but not "New Name" Collum.
Then un-tick Folder, and then re-tick Folder. This should re-count your sub-folders.

Allright... i came around it.
As i wrote you can`t drag and drop your files, the program will not read the path were flies come from.
But if i import the files from the tree and tick folder, subfolders, files ( in 12 ) it`s all good.
Now all my folders 1500 + are music folders with Flac and about 10.000 jpg files, and i only want to rename and renumber jpg`s
so i only had to enter a *jpg* in the mask section (12) and the program do NOT import the flac files...
Emer .....thanks for the help so far ...
Have a nice

I will lift this way of renaming to a new post later as i see other have had similar problems.

I have exactly the same issue in version 3.4.3.0. If I dragg & drop files into BRU, the numbering doesn't reset for each folder.

If I drag & drop

[if you] drag and drop your files, the program will not read the path were flies come from

So in that respect, 10:Numbering with Folder enabled, will not work in that situation.

Im thinking its because the Numbering(10) 'Folder' depends on the same-variable that controls 'SubDir.' inside of the file-listing ??
Maybe this variable only comes from a file-list that is generated from a selection in the folder-tree, with Subfolders checked?
Im no ideas if the programmers could change it to use another variable instead, more like the Append Folder Name(9)?

Im also not know the criteria for "which files is getting dragged", but maybe the Filters(12) 'Mask' can help?

Hi, is this the result of dragging files into BRU from different folders - and then wanting to number files but reset the counter for each different folder?
It's not working because the file list was not built by BRU, this is a current limitation of this function, sorry. It does not work for drag and drop but it will work if the file list is built by BRU.
