How to bulk change Date Taken?

Hello!

Problem:
The DATE column in Windows Explorer is being populated by the DATE TAKEN EXIF data. How can I bulk change this meta data on the file with a new date or use a date from another keyword (Date Created, Date Modified)?

Context:
I'm working on a massive archive of family photos that date back several decades. In the interest of uploading them to Google Photos, it seems relevant to change the Date Created, Date Modified, and Date Taken all to the day the photo was taken so Google Photos can arrange chronologically (instead of the date they were scanned in, or copied to a new folder, etc.). After I complete my renaming and re-dating work for an entire year, I open Windows Explorer and run a search for *.jpg to take a look at the dates for the files as a double check (They all better be from 1978!). From what I can gather, EXIF data was written to some of the files when they were color corrected in Adobe Photoshop (2010), and Windows sees THIS and assumes it is the correct data for the "DATE" column within Windows Explorer. This is a wonderful spot check on my files to look at all of them for the year at one time and sort them to ensure nothing was missed in the process, however, if this date thinks it's 2010, it goofs up this quality control.

Thank you so much for your help! I attempted to find solutions to this problem in the forum but kept getting denied by the service. "You words are too common." (I tried searching the forum for "rename Date Taken" "Change date taken", etc. all was too vague apparently).

Hi , Bulk Rename Utility currently can't change the DATE TAKEN EXIF data, maybe try https://exiftool.org/

Hi, I was incorrect, sorry!
The new version 4.0.0.2 can change EXIF Date Taken based on the creation date or modified date of a file.
So you would be able to set creation date, modified date and also the date taken EXIF property to a value you want.

Hello!

I'm so sorry for late response. Been working on a large photo project and it took some time to muster the patience to sit down and give this another go.

Anyways, I was able to change the Date Taken! I think I had an old version installed, and went back to find the v4 you were talking about but it was tucked in the forums and not on the home page?? Maybe I'm misremembering. So I got the new version, and it took a while to get things rolling, but I'm very happy with the results.

Thank you so much for the input, and if you have any hand in the design of this software then thank you again! It's a great program. A lot of bells and whistles to help for any situation.

I set the date modified to a fixed date in the first run.
Then I wanted to change the date taken to this new date modified timestamp, but it´s not working.
Testing on a picture with date modified in original state it works.
Why?
I use the V4.0.0.3 home use license

Hi, I am having the same problem. I think this feature doesn't affect "Date Taken" when it has no value. It is only able to change it when it is already some date. Is there a workaround for this?
