Apologies, Newbie here - Can see folder but no files on NAS

Postby berillio » Fri Sep 18, 2026 8:08 pm

Hiya Newbie here, downloaded BRU yesterday and loved it. But now I have encountered a problem.
I am trying to use BRU on a NETGEAR NAS, mapped to the PC. I can see the folders but not the files, the folders appears empty, "no files found".
Of course the NAS is using linux which is using ext4. Is that the reason? Any workaround?
Mmmm. I also have 2 ZIMA boxes ( which run linux), but CASAOS1 has disks formatted to ext4, while CASAOS2 has disks formatted to NTFS. And CASAOS1 shows the same behaviour, I can see all the folders structure, but no files.
So I answered myself somewhat... but just in case, any workaround to this? (and I know that there is no BRU for linux)
Many thanks in advance, berillio

The ext4 filesystem is probably not the reason. When a NAS is mapped in Windows, BRU accesses it through the Windows SMB network share; it does not directly access the NAS’s ext4 disk.

Try these checks:

1. In Filters (12):
- Enable Files.
- Set Filter to `*.*` or `*`.
- Enable Folders only if you also want folders listed.
- Check that no Name/Path limits, Condition, or other filter excludes the files.
- Refresh the listing.

2. Confirm that the files are visible in Windows Explorer using the same account. If Explorer also shows an empty folder, check the NAS share and file permissions.

3. Try opening the share using its UNC path instead of the mapped drive, for example:

```text
\\NAS-name\ShareName
```

4. If the mapped drive was created in a normal user session, but BRU is being run as Administrator, the mapping may not be available with the same permissions. Either run BRU normally or map/access the UNC path using the appropriate NAS credentials.

5. Confirm that the account has at least read/modify permission for the files, not just permission to list folders.
