But I desperately need to prefix using a date format of YYYYMMDD.
(You provide only YYMMDD, so 2001 gets truncated to 01 and thus sorts before 1999 (as 99))
The YYYYMMDD is THE international standard date format set out in ISO 8601.
I promise to make a donation if you fix this.
ciao

Hi Adam, i fixed that for you.
BTW, the donation button is over there >>> http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Donate.php
Here is how it works:
For "Auto Date(8)" Rule check the "[X] Cent." field too to get full YYYY year incl. century.
See BRU help
Using the Application > The Main Screen > Auto Date - Add various dates to the filename, in various formats
The "Cent." flag is used to indicate whether or not you would the year to be represented with two digits or 4 digits.
If that feature where not there you could use "Custom" format with "%Y%m%d" to get YYYYMMDD
or you could had just use additionally "Add(7) Prefix '20' " to add the century your self.
Thank you very much for supporting the project.
