Suggestions for v3

Postby Emerkamp » Tue Feb 16, 2016 5:38 pm

I really like the new version of BRU. I have a few suggestions for future releases.

- Please bring back the slow double click for manual renaming.

- Please enable mouse wheel scrolling function in the file list for "On hover"
This is because as it is now, you have to click inside the list to give it focus for mouse wheel scrolling. You then loose your current selection checking for errors.
The scroll bar works, but not really accurate when you have lots of files.

- Any way to give more vertical viewing in the file list would also be help full.
I know this probably can not be done very easy. Maybe being able to detach, hide, or resize unneeded sections.

Thank you for the great program and help.

Hi

We will look into this, right now you can click on F2 to manually rename

- Please enable mouse wheel scrolling function in the file list for "On hover"

Ok

Yes, agreed, we need to look into how to accomplish this.

thank you for the feedback!

I am in agreement with the OP. I use this program daily, and its function is darn near priceless.

I like the new look of v3, but the new Special category (at the bottom of the UI) takes up far too much space. It really feels like 1/3 of the space available for the file/folder list has been taken up by that and the large title banner at the top of the UI. The new Copy/Move to Location could be concatenated to include the reset/rever/rename buttons, and the branding section with "Check For Upgrades" information could simply be eliminated from the UI. In fact, it feels like the latter was just thrown in as an afterthought to take up space.

In my opinion, the special renaming boxes do not need their own space in the main UI. Their function is already adequately provided for by the file menu.

The only feature I'd have liked to have seen in v3 is the ability to rename to subfolders via regex. Currently, I have to use another great app to accomplish that task.

No problem!

The regex feature of any renamer is the tool I tend to use more than any other. It's usefulness is priceless. That said, one thing that takes a renamer to the next level is this the ability to rename to subfolders. An explanation as follows.

Take for instance the simple filenames:

receipts_2016-01-01_001
receipts_2016-01-02_001
receipts_2016-01-02_002
receipts_2016-01-05_001

Now, let's get a very simple regex for the filenames.

(.*)_(\d\d\d\d-\d\d-\d\d)_(\d\d\d)

Now let's say we want to put them into folders that are labeled by date, AND let's say that the forward slash (/) means that you want a subfolder.
The resulting string might look like this:

\2/\1_\2_\3

The resulting folder structure would end up looking like this:

/2016-01-01/receipts_2016-01-01_001
/2016-01-02/receipts_2016-01-02_001
/2016-01-02/receipts_2016-01-02_002
/2016-01-05/receipts_2016-01-05_001

There is a tool that does this already (in Windows). It's called Regex Renamer, and it can easily be found on SourceForge, but I don't know if it's cool for me to link to that, so I won't.

You are right that is a very nice feature. We will implement it in next release.
It can currently be done with Javascript but it requires to do a bit of Javascript coding.
thanks for the feedback!

I would agree with starkline59. The screen has many options that may not be used frequently. Maybe you could provide an option to view/hide options and make your great software a bit more personalized.
I would suggest checking "tag&rename" a music renaming utility.
Thanks
