appreciate the quick response.
when i look into the properties of both a JPG and an HEIC file (under "Details" and "Date Taken"), they both seem to miss the "seconds" (e.g. 9/20/2019 4:10 PM) but obviously the JPG file has it and it even shows up in the "Item Date" column.
does this make sense?
thanks

Hi, Windows removes all seconds for some reason...
BRU will not show seconds (or set them to 0) for time info it gets directly from Windows like Item Date, but it will show seconds for dates it gets directly via EXIF (jpg) or from the file system (created / modified / accessed date).

so how do you explain this - i take the HEIC file in windows that supposedly doesn't have the seconds info, convert it to JPEG and now I do have the Date Taken info with seconds.
the seconds info is somewhere in the HEIC file obviously as it pops up when the HEIC file is converted to JPEG.

Yes, but if you check, Windows does not show seconds for date taken either when in JPG format.
BRU does because it gets date taken directly from the JPG EXIF and not from Windows for JPG files.
I think it would be good for BRU not to rely on Windows!

Yes. Windows doesnt show seconds for either file type but my point is this info us contained somewhere in the HEIC file and so there’s got to be a way to extract it.

Yes, it's in there. BRU relies on Windows to provide that info and Windows does not provide the seconds, unfortunately.

I use BRU3.4.4.0. I want to rename .HEIC files from my IPhone. It seems that BRU cannot properly read EXIF date as described above. Taken date remains empty. Not sure if something is broken in BRU again. Is there a solution for it?

I'm also trying to rename iPhone HEIC image files. System.Photo.DateTaken file property shows 7/13/2024 1:23 PM, but will not display in BRU "Taken (Original) column. If I convert the file to JPG, BRU "Taken (Original) column is correctly displaying the date and time 7/13/2024 1:23 PM.

Using BRU version 3.4.4.0

Yes... But only for video files... seems that the download from iCloud Photos keeps the "item date" intact. Whereas the HEIC files are giving the download dates. I been using a HEIC to JPEG conversion tool and then on the JPEG images, BRU is correctly displaying "date taken" (image property value is correct as well). When I check the properties in the original HEIC file... property value looks ok. So I don't understand why BRU will properly extract the "date taken" from the converted to JPEG from HEIC image.
