Renaming photos to specific format of date created

Postby Dementor » Thu Nov 17, 2022 6:13 pm

Hello :)
I've been renaming my photos and videos using Windows Powershell for a while, and recently I discovered BRU.
I'm trying to understand how to rename my photos and vids to a specific format I like of the date they were created.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find/ understand the way to do it.

The format I wish to achieve is (for example): "31-Oct-2022 11.31.JPG"
I'll explain it: 2 digit day in the month followed by 3 letters of the month followed by 4 digit of the year
; then space followed by a 2 digit hour followed by a dot followed by a 2 digit minute.

Also, in case there are duplicates (for example, two photos were taken in the same minute), I wish BRU would add "(1)" to the first photo taken and "(2) to the second photo taken.

Can that be achieved? How?
Thank you so much for your help !

Renaming Options -> Prevent Duplicates

As far as renaming the file names, what is the format they are in to begin with?

Thank you !
Will the "Prevent Duplicates" command force it to the specified format? Meaning, the first photo taken at that same minute will have "(1)" at the end, the second photo at the same minute will have "(2)" and so on...

As to the format they are in, it's usually something like this: "DSC_0010.JPG".

Hi, the prevent duplicates function will add some text [according to a format you can specify] if the rename will result in a new name that is already existing at the moment when the file is renamed.

Thank you :)
Do you know how I could manage to achieve that exact rename format itself, in accordance with the date the photo was taken? (For example, "31-Oct-2022 11.31.JPG")
This is my main and only issue at the moment, for I don't find the means to do it using BRU... Frankly, I came to a point in which I don't even know how and where to start.
Thank you very much ! Appreciate it so very much :)

Hi, for adding the date into the name, you can use AutoDate (8).
