Tree view won't persist

Postby mikslplyk » Wed May 14, 2025 3:18 pm

For the YEARS that I have been using BRU, the file tree was on the left. After updating to 4.0.0.7 however, the tree view is gone. I have clicked on Actions > Show/Hide Tree, and the tree appears. However, when I start BRU the next time, once again the tree is gone. I have to tell it to display Every. Single. Time.

Where can this be permanently configured? I looked in Preferences but don't see it there.

The setting to display, or not, is stored in the Windows Registry.

Maybe, for some reason (?), you (no longer) have the ability to set (save) values for that registry setting?

The setting is stored at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TGRMN Software\Bulk Rename Utility\Main Window\
in the key, 'Splitter Hidden'.

A value of 0x00000000 means that the Tree will display.
A value of 0x00000001 means that the Tree will be hidden

I'll assume on your end, it is (currently) set to '1'.

If you're able to change that to '0',
right-click 'Splitter Hidden', Modify..., Value Data: 1, OK,
that should get your Tree back (& it should persist, I'd expect).

This key is already set to 0.

When I open BRU from the Start Menu, the tree is there.

The problem appears to be that when I use the context menu (either "Bulk Rename Here" or "Bulk Rename Selected Items") the registry key is ignored and the tree does not show.

When opening from either "Bulk Rename Here" or "Bulk Rename Selected Items" the tree is not shown by default as it is assumed that user wants to just rename the selected files.
However, this behavior can be changed to still open the tree like in previous versions.
There is a preference for this. It's in Tools -> Preferences : Hide the folder tree when starting with "Bulk Rename Selected Items" from Windows File Explorer. Set this to No for old behavior.
In general the tree can be shown or hidden with F11 or from the Actions menu.
