filenames not shown correctly

Postby gkleinn » Mon Aug 11, 2025 3:11 pm

My workflow with photos is that I rename the photos systematically before I copy them to my Windows computer. This worked perfectly with all devices in the past.

Now I bought an Xreal Beam Pro (an Android tablet that serves as 3D camera) and when I connect to it BRU shows absurdely wrong names instad of the file names.

I try to add a screenshot.

What can I do to see the correct file names to rename them?

Best regards

(That's an interesting one.
You'd figure, if it were some sort of virtualization, that since Windows Explorer sees it correctly, that BRU would also see it that way.

Note that in one instance, file names are "normal", along with file sizes (& dates, presumably),
& the other, you have a "GUID" name, 0-byte file sizes, & dated 1-1-70.

Even if the files where physically stored elsewhere on the camera, with the GUID's only a pointer,
still you would expect BRU to see them correctly.

Perhaps ? maybe the physical files are stored "in the cloud", & /camera/ only provides a link, which goes out to the cloud & "pulls in", displays, the actual picture ?)

No, the camera files are not in a cloud

As a test, what happens if you try rename one file that has the weird name? An error given?
Is File Explorer the only application showing the correct names? Or is BRU the only application showing the wrong names?

When I try renaming in BRU I get an error

I put an additional MicroSD card into the tablet and copied photos to the card.
BRU has the same problem with the memory card as it has with the internal memory.

If you were to copy some of the files, named as is, from the "tablet" onto your HDD, & pointed BRU to that directory on your HDD, I take it that BRU sees the "correct" file names (& then would be able to rename them to what you want, like prefix TEST).

FF & Photoshop can see the files.
(And this is while the files are on the tablet, correct?)

And at the same time, Open Office (& Cosima) cannot see the files.

Was there any (specific) software (driver) that you had to install for this "tablet"?

This is what I do now, but it makes life complicated because I the file names on the tablet and on my Windows system are different
