4.0.0.9: Pasted names lost upon list selection change

Postby chrisjj » Fri Oct 10, 2025 12:54 pm

Thanks for the great-looking improvements for 4.1.0.0! Unfortunately I can't yet switch from 4.0.0.9.

On Windows 7.

1 With multiple files in list, do Select All - Alt-A
2 With one or more text lines on clipboard, do Paste from Clipboard, Set new names from clipboard - Alt-N
3 On some files, do (Invert current) Ctrl+Space (to deselect)

Expected: New name reverts to old name on deselected files.
Observed: New name reverts to old name on ALL files.

Workaround: none known, short of manually adjusting the the clipboard line set and file set.

I do hope you can fix this. It prangs a now frequent need on what is a very valuable feature for me.

PS Both "Set new names from clipboard" and "Invert current" commands are missing from menus.

Hi, using Alt+N to set new names from the clipboard does not persist if the file selection changes; the new names must be reapplied.

Thanks for the workaround.

Do you foresee a fix?

I am not sure because new names are usually set by the renaming criteria, and when pasting new names from clipboard , this is a one time action: if selection is changed the current renaming criteria are reapplied. I think if you need the new name to be persistent, probably using a CSV import with old name and new name is better. In that case new names are kept even if selection changes.
