Changing EXIF data on old photos (pre-1971)

Hi - new poster; I have looked through the forum and been unable to find a solution to this. I have digitised several thousand 35mm colour slides taken by my grandfather - thankfully he was meticulous about dating and filing them so I know the dates when they were taken. I would like to change the creation date in the EXIF data to reflect the date accurately as currently the JPG files show the creation date the scanner chose. However I can't use the date change functionality to go back beyond 1971 and the sequence starts no later than 1955. Is there any way of doing this, either with Javascript or expanding the possible date ranges?

Some posts here (& elsewhere) seem to indicate that 1971 is a "magic" date (so you may not be able to do this with BRU ?)

Might be able to work something out with Exiftool?

Wonder if there might be an avenue using JavaScript in BRU?
