Same here on my Vista 32.

No BRUHere.dll in the BRU subfolder even though I checked the right menu option during install.

Could you please post a link where to obtain BRUHere.dll

Thanks

I'm having the same problem with XP Pro after just downloading and installing the current version today. No context menu, and the command line (with quotes) doesn't work - the system doesn't find the module. In fact, the file BRUHere.dll doesn't seem to have been installed -- at least it's not in either Program Files or Windows. I tried removing and reinstalling the program, making very sure that I chose to install the context menu (which I'm sure I did the first time anyway) and that made no difference.
I've been using an earlier BRU version (2.3.4.1) for several years and love it, but for some reason the old one suddenly didn't work at all today - no context menu, and using shortcuts and double-clicking on the exe file didn't start it either. BUT - it did appear as a process in Task Manager, which I had to kill in order to remove the program to reinstall.

Using Windows 7 32bit.
Also no "Bulk Rename Here" with v2.7.1.1
Installed v2.7.0.3 (it has bruhere.dll), then installed v2.7.1.1
Et voila, icon and "Bulk Rename Here" with right-click on folders and files.

I'm using BRU a long time, beats everything else!

Hi Adsis and thanks for the post. Where does one find v2.7.0.3?? Or for that matter just bruhere.dll?

Browsing through this forum it seems clear that bruhere.dll is simply missing from the latest package, but Jim either doesn't believe it or is too busy with his day job to fix it. (-:

That's unfair. Jim sold the program long ago to a commercial software company.

Ok, my bad. So, can someone possibly post bruhere.dll or an older version of BRU? Please??

I can provide an FTP drop box if someone is willing... THANKS!

I am astonished that this problem does not appear to be sorted yet, I found the missing
BRUHere.dll problem nearly a year ago (Post 9 in this thread) - shame on TGRMN Software.

It is not easy to find old versions on the Net, but have a look here:

http://rizon.tistory.com/entry/Bulk-Rename-Utility-Public-Versions

There is Build 2.7.0.3 (32 and 64Bit) still available.

Best regards, Lilien

I am running Windows7 64 bit with the same problems:

No right click context menu when clicking on files, only folders
Context menu has no icon
Program has no icon when in taskbar

Tried 2.7.1.1 32 bit, got no context menus whatsoever
Tried 2.7.0.1 32 bit, got no context menus whatsoever

Hope there is a fix soon!

Like Your1Self, I am also running Windows 7 (Home Edition 64x bit) and when I right-click on a file in Windows Explorer, the "Bulk Rename Here" option does not appear in the drop-down context menu.

However, like Lilien posted before, all that appears to be missing is the file "BRUhere.dll", which is available in the version 2.7.0.3 of BRU:

32-bit = BRU_Setup_WinNTx86.exe (Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista)
64-bit = BRU_Setup_WinNTx64.exe (Windows XP 64-bit/2003 64-bit/Vista 64-bit)

As Adsis pointed out earlier, all you have to do is:

1. Uninstall the most recent version of BRU (2.7.1.1)
2. Download and install the build of V.2.7.0.3 that matches your OS:
-NOTE: If you are running a 64-bit platform, then the install might state that it will install in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bulk Rename Utility\" folder -- the default location where 32-bit programs are installed. However, it will actually install it in "C:\Program Files\Bulk Rename Utility" folder -- the default location where 64-bit programs are installed. If so, then this is a good thing, because...
3. Re-install the BRU-64bit V. 2.7.1.1. It will auto-detect and over-write the program in the "C:\Program Files\Bulk Rename Utility" folder; however, it will leave BRUhere.dll intact.

This way, you get the 2.7.1.1 64-bit program as well as the context menu option from the prior version. And yes, after the re-install, I confirmed that the version number changed from 2.7.0.3 to 2.7.1.1.

Hope this helps,

I was actually able to just run the older 2.7.0.3 install over my already installed 2.7.1.1 while checking only the 'context menu' (unchecking install of the program files) to update without having to uninstall anything. Looks like it worked fine.

I'm using Vista Ultimate 64

I was having a problem where the right-click "Bulk Rename Here" option being available sometimes, and sometimes not. I went looking for a reason and a fix and then remembered that I still had a Howto for a Registry modification to add a right-click "Launch Adobe Bridge Here" item to launch Adobe Bridge at any folder. I wondered if the same code could be modified to do the same thing with BRU ----- and it works :-)

I offer no guarantee whatsoever, so please back up your Registry (or create a restore point) if you're all queezy about messing with the Registry.

Here's what I did:

**********************************

Launch Regedit and navidate to:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\

Create new New Key and name it something like "Bulkrename" (without quotes)
Rightclick new 'Bulkrename' key and create a new key by selecting New -> Key and name it "command" (without quotes)

Modify the default Value for the 'Bulkrename' key and set the Value data to:

"Bulk Renamer Here" (without quotes)

Modify the Value for the 'command' key and set its Value data to:

C:\Program Files\Bulk Rename Utility\Bulk Rename Utility.exe "%L"

(do not remove the ending quotes in the above line)

**********************************

This seems to have fixed it. Hope this helps others

I'm not sure if I did this or not, but if I didn't click on "Install Windows Explorer Extension" when I installed the program, what can I do to go back and make sure it is applied? Or do I have to reinstall the program all over again?
